Accra, Dec 26, GNA- Naab Akanlusinaam Issah Atibil, Chief of the Builsa Uwasi Community in Accra, has celebrated the fifth anniversary of his installation, with an appeal for assistance to promote the development of basic education in the area.
There was throbbing drums, thumping of feet that synchronised with the throbs, flaunting of whisks and blowing of whistles by the joyous celebrants, at the Ofankor residence of the Chief last Saturday, all in a call to make meaningful contributions to equip the local Uwasi primary school back home with enough teachers, books and other logistics.
Uwasi, is a town of five farming communities in the Builsa Area of the Upper East Region of Ghana.
However, children in the area walk some distances to attend the school, located in a central point among a number of communities.
Also, the school, according to the chief, does not have enough teachers, and in one stance, 95 children being handled by one teacher in a class.
This challenge, is making the communities look for teachers and pay them from their own resources.
He appealed for assistance to improve the physical appearance of the school block.
Naab Atibil expressed worry over the situation, and stressed the importance of education, appealed to all sons and daughters of Uwasi, and others with a heart to the plight, to contribute to the development of education back home.
“We need Government support urgently,” Naab Atibil said, and appealed to all to come to the aid of the school.
The chief announced the establishment of a fund to cater for the education of the needy children.
Naab Atibil also called on the people to do all they can to regular visit home and make there more attractive.
He appealed to the Government to assist the Uwasi community with more boreholes and other means of potable water as residents moved over long distances in search of water during the dry season.
The communities also need health facilities, Naab Atibil said; and he further appealed to Government to improve the condition of the stretch of road from Uwasi through Kadema to Fumbisi.
Present at the celebration were chiefs of the Dagomba, Frafra, Kusasi and some other communities from Northern Ghana, in Accra.
