Teachers, parents urged to educate children on COVID-19 protocols
Bechem (A/R), Jan. 21, GNA – The Reverend Frimpong Boadu, the Chairman of the Bechem Local Council of Churches has appealed to teachers and parents to support the government in her efforts to stem the spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
As schools have been re-opened, it behoves on teachers, parents and guardians to take the responsibility to educate school children to follow all the COVID-19 protocols and directives to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the schools environment, he said.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday at Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region, Rev. Boadu advised Churches and civil society organisations to help accelerate COVID-19 education to prevent community spread.
The Bechem Local Council of Churches had earlier presented teaching and learning materials to the Municipal Directorate of Education for onward distribution to deprived schools in the Municipality.
They included a quantity of pencils and pens, exercise books, mathematical sets, chalks and erasers.
« We need to educate our children so that they can follow all the COVID-19 health and safety protocols to be able to protect themselves and those around them, both at school and in the house, » he said.
Rev. Boadu indicated the Church remained a key partner in facilitating accelerated national development, hence the need to support the government to achieve her vision for the nation.
Mr. Collins Offinam Takyi, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive, thanked the Council for the items and prayed that other corporate bodies and wealthy individuals in the area would support the Assembly to meet the developmental needs of the communities.
He also called for concerted efforts towards preventing the spread of the COVID-19 in the Municipality.
