Washington, 20 September (ANGOP) – The Angolan President, João Lourenço, is set to have a meeting this Monday with the National Security adviser to the President of the United States, Jake Sullivan, as part of the agenda of the Angolan statesman’s visit to Washington.

The meeting might tackle issues relating to security in the African continent, in particular, and in the world in general.

Jake Sullivan has held the position since the beginning of Joe Biden’s term, in January of this year, being the main adviser to the President of the United States on matters of national security.

On the same day, João Lourenço, who is in Washington since Saturday on a working visit, will be awarded with the prize from the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF), during the organization’s Annual Gala, due to his initiatives in favour of environment conservation.

The Head of State has also on his agenda meetings with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and with the heads of the Foreign Relations committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

According to the Angolan ambassador to the United States, Joaquim do Espírito Santo, these meetings aim to establish dialogue, economic agreements, peaceful relations and trade partnerships.

Still in Washington, João Lourenço will visit valuable collections of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture.

African descendants played a relevant role in the formation of the United States of America.

The President´s agenda includes an interview with “The Washington Post”, the country’s second largest daily newspaper after the “New York Times”, to address various current political, economic and social issues in Angola, among others.

“The Washington Post,” was founded in December 1877 and is the largest daily newspaper in the Washington metropolitan area, with a large national audience.

After the US capital, the Angolan Head of State will travel to New York on Wednesday to participate in the general debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, taking place as from 21 to 27 September, in which he will speak on Thursday, September 23.
