Kinshasa, March 25th, 2021 (ACP) – The Ministry in charge of Mines is organizing from March 29th to 30th of the current year in Lubumbashi, capital of Haut Katanga province, a workshop which will examine the difficulties of locally transforming copper and sulphide concentrates produced in the said province and in Lualaba, said a statement from the said ministry signed by the outgoing minister, Willy Kitobo Samsoni, of which CPA received a copy on Wednesday.
According to the press release, the convening of this workshop comes as the date of the expiration of the 6 (six) month moratorium granted to mining companies ends on April 12th, 2021.
The participants will have to exchange views on the evolution, in terms of efforts undertaken by all the stakeholders, in order to find an ideal solution for the national economy whose main base rests on the mining sector.
« It goes without saying that he supports all the local initiatives already carried out. The organization of this meeting is an opportunity to discuss the issue that is debated with the local communities, civil society organizations and technical and financial partners, around the development of the specifications and the provision of the mining law on the payment of the quota of 0.3 of the annual turnover allocated to community development”, specifies the source.
The Ministry in charge of Mines invites mining operators to take an active part in this forum, in order to find a consensual solution to the thorny concern linked to the exploitation of concentrates and to the commitments of mining companies to local communities.
