Ahanta West District, Ministry of Information engage citizens on development objectives

Agona-Nkwanta (W/R), July 12, GNA – Mrs Henrietta Mary Eyeson, the Ahanta West Municipal Chief Executive, has said the assembly would continue to improve the quality of life of the people by efficiently employing all the needed resources available.
He said this would mean effectively mobilizing human and material resources together with development partners to ensure the stated goal.
Mrs Eyeson was speaking during a town hall meeting organized by the assembly under the auspices of the Ministry of Information to inform the public about projects, programmes and policies of the government at Agona-Nkwanta in the Western Region.
She said the assembly has undertaken many socio-economic and infrastructural initiatives such as the upgrading public facilities and the establishment of a viable factory in collaboration with the private sector
The MCE said with the Planting for Jobs and Investment, the district’s Center of Agriculture, Commerce and Technology has started the distribution of 100,000 seedlings and acquired land for an oil palm project with a total of 854 registered farmers for the programme.
Mrs Eyeson said 241 new micro and small enterprises have been created; 148 entrepreneurs identified and trained on alternative livelihood and business diversification; 10 sets of start-up kits distributed to graduates; 17 youth educated in agriculture –business and livelihood training programmes; 1500 identified and trained- with 574 registered under the nation builder’s corp.
Under social development, she said the assembly has built schools, CHPS compound, assisted the aged and vulnerable under the LEAP project, sports promotion and the school feeding programme.
Mrs Eyeson said the sea defense project was also on course, whilst public accountability and participation in the governance process had been given a boost.
Mr Armstrong Asmah, the Regional information Officer, said the town hall meetings are decentralised means of giving the members and leaders of the various communities nationwide the opportunity to discuss the progress of their communities.
He said this year, the Ministry of Information is holding Town Hall Meetings in all Districts, Municipal and Metropolitan Levels to bring the entire nation up to speed on major government policies and programmes and to obtain feedback from the citizenry.
The Regional Information Officer said the government is working in all the sectors to ensure inclusive growth and development for the entire country.
Mr Asmah said the Ministry of Information has made gains by improving transparency and public access to information through the Meet-the-Press series, town hall meetings and policy fairs.
The Regional Information Officer said government has ensured fiscal discipline in the management of public finances and this has resulted in the government attaining its budget deficit target for the first time since 2006.
He said the government has established the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) to provide an integrated national support for early- stage (start-ups) and small businesses with seed capital of $ 10 million.
« The Government is also implementing the Greening Business Management Initiative to train and equip the youth with skills and resources to transform vegetable production in the country and government is currently implementing the biggest Green House Estate Project in West Africa. »
Mr Asmah said some special initiatives undertaken by government include the establishment of the Ministry of Zongo and Inner City Development.
First of its kind to focus on the needs and infrastructural demands of the Zongos around the Country, adding that a Zongo Development Fund Bill had been passed and established with an allocation of GHC 219 million.
Mr Asmah said the government has also instituted three development Authorities: Northern, Middle belt and Coastal Development Authorities, de-silting of major drains in Accra and the implementation of the Persons with Disability Toll Collection Initiative where 50 per cent of the Human Resource for road toll collection are now made up of persons with disability.
