MONROVIA, April 24 (LINA) – The Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA) has made several donations to a number of media institutions in Liberia.

An ALJA Press Release, issued on Friday, April 23, says the donations, which include five laptops and ten digital tape recorders, were made as part of its media development program which represents the organization’s overarching goal of empowering Liberian Journalists by providing them the logistical support and training necessary to effectively perform their reportorial duties.

Media institutions benefiting from ALJA’s donation include Kreative Mindz Television, Okay FM and the Heritage Newspaper. Others are the Public Trust Media Group which runs the News Public Trust website and the Daily Observer newspaper.

In separate presentations at the respective media institutions on Thursday, April 22, the National Vice President of ALJA, Mr. Pewee Baysah, who is visiting the country, lauded the contributions being made by these media institutions to give voice to individuals and institutions in expressing their political, economic, social, religious and cultural positions on issues of national concern.

The ALJA National Vice President urged the media institutions to continue to exhibit the highest degree of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Mr. Baysah encouraged the institutions to remain committed to serving the Liberian people with integrity.

He expressed the hope that ALJA will undertake more of such initiatives in the future that will benefit other media institutions in the country.

In remarks, the managements of the respective media institutions expressed gratitude to ALJA for the donation and promised to remain committed to professional and impartial reporting.

The ALJA Vice President was accompanied by the organization’s former National Secretary General, Mr. Charles Crawford. Mr. Crawford currently serves as ALJA’s representative to Liberia

The latest donation by ALJA represents the organization’s second direct outreach to Liberian journalists since the incumbency of current National President Joe Mason.

In May of 2020 during the apex of the Covid-19 crisis in Liberia, the organization donated food and non-food items to Liberian journalists through the Press Union of Liberia (PUL)

Meanwhile, the Association has announced that its 2021 National Convention will be an in-person event held in the city of Trenton, New Jersey from Thursday, the 23rd of September thru Sunday, September 26 2021.

The ALJA release says the decision to gather in person was made by the organization’s membership in view of the increased number of people getting the Covid-19 vaccinations and the gradual relaxation of restrictions across the United States.

ALJA’s annual National convention is the biggest gathering in the diaspora of eminent personalities and journalists.

ALJA is a conglomeration of current and retired Liberian journalists residing in the Americas. It is a 501c (3) non-profit organization.

The Association was founded in 1998 with the objectives of fostering companionship amongst its members and their American counterparts.

Additionally, ALJA is committed to advancing press freedom through media capacity building, and the fostering of good governance in Liberia through media advocacy.
