Accra, July 16, GNA – The future of Ghana tennis looks promising after a spectacular display by Desmond Ayaaba and Helena Hammond during the National Under 14 junior Tennis Championship at the Tennis Court of the Accra Sports Stadium.
Desmond Ayaaba of Baboo Sports Academy and Helena Hammond of Stadium Tennis club emerged winners of the championship.
Hammond defeated Veronica Antwi 6-2 to win the girls category, whilst Desmond Ayaaba successfully won 6-3 against Lemeck Bagerbaseh.
Hammond after winning the championship said it was as a result of hard work and dedication to training.
« I gave this match my best and I commend my opponent for putting up a great fight.
« I have learnt a lot from the championship and I hope to continue my winning streak, » she said.
The National Under-12 Championship was organized by Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG) under the auspices of the GTF with support from Tenolf Sports.
Isaac Aboakye Kwesi Duah, the Ghana Tennis Federation’s President expressed delight at the performance of Ayaaba and Helena indicating that it would boost the Federation in its renewed commitment to develop Ghana tennis from the grassroots.
