CEMESP Gets USAID Grant For Fellowship Program

MONROVIA, Sept. 14 (LINA) – The Center for Media Studies and Peacebuilding (CEMESP) has received a grant from USAID Media Activity through Internews to implement an investigative journalism fellowship program for Liberian journalists.

The fellowship under the journalism component of USAID Media Activity seeks to build the capacity of local journalists to improve their storytelling skills through in-depth reporting and reinforce the ability to fact-check to identify and counter misinformation and disinformation.

The fellowship also enhances freedom of expression and information dissemination that strengthens media professionalism and the quality delivery of news and information.

It offers support and empowerment for the first batch of 18 journalists with gender balance so that they can increase and improve their coverage of public finance, environment, natural resources management and anti-corruption issues in a way that promotes accountability and transparency in the public sector.

The fellowship package includes training, mentoring, stories production and modest story grant to enable fellows pursue story ideas.

CEMESP intends to hone the reportorial skills of 18 journalists as fellows for a period of 10 months (November 2022-August 2023).

Selection Criteria: Must have passion for Investigative Journalism and must provide evidence of similar work done within the last two years.

At least five years of experience in mainstream media with any local media entity (print, broadcast and online) is a requirement.

Applicants must be fluent in Witten and Spoken English and present a Letter of Consent from editorial supervisor approving participation.

CEMESP is therefore accepting applications from individual journalists working for print, radio, and online media institutions in Liberia to form part of this new fellowship program.
