Ho, June 29, GNA-Dr Archibald Letsa, Volta Regional Minister has disclosed that the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) is tended to lay the structure for the country’s development planning processes and not a political exercise.
He therefore expected all Ghanaians to participate in the process devoid of any political ramifications and connotation.
Dr Letsa made the statement when he and his household were enumerated at the Residency.
He asked for the cooperation from the people of the region to the exercise and make sure they were counted and expected the 14-day exercise to be without glitches.
The Regional Minister appealed to the people to provide accurate bio-data and demographic information, which he said would be the bedrock for national development.
Mr Chris Amewu, Regional Census Officer said it took about 40 minutes to administer the questionnaire on the Minister and expected the people to get enumerated also.
« Once the father of the region has been captured, it behooves every citizen in the region to get enlisted and enumerated.
He appealed to the people to cooperate with census officials that would be visiting homes between today and July 11, this year, and assured that data collected would be treated as highly confidential.
« No individual will have access to the data as it is against the law. »
He said people who would escape the radar of registration should not hesitate to complain their district offices for prompt redress and the policy is to count everybody.
Census night, a day set out to begin enumeration of the population was staged in Ho by a street procession with brass bank music to create awareness for the national exercise and count those in transit at the lorry parks and open spaces in the Municipality.
