Chef decries theft of creative contents in Nigerian culinary industry

Abuja, April 11, 2019 (NAN) Taylor Odeje, a chef has called on his colleagues to desist from « stealing » creative contents in the culinary industry.

Chef Taylor, who is known as the youngest private chef in Nigeria, decried the creative theft trend currently gaining ground in the Nigerian culinary space.

He said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday while speaking on the growth of Afro-fusion food in Nigeria and Abuja in particular.

Taylor noted that creativity is a major prerequisite for being a chef and succeeding in the field, hence, there was no justification for stealing recipes or photographs from others.

He said, « Stop stealing people’s recipes or Instagram photos. Creativity helps chefs stand out and everybody is trying to do the same thing. Try something new and stop doing copy and paste or recycling recipes. »

He also told NAN that Afro-fusion food was fast gaining ground in Abuja because of the lifestyle pattern in the city. Afro-fusion is a mixture of local and foreign recipes or styles to make a meal.

Taylor, who runs Abuja’s first fully Afro-fusion restaurant ‘The Colony’ said, « Afro-fusion food is my own take or interpretation of food and how it should be.

« The fact that Nigerians always claim to be sophisticated and will rather go to the western side to get everything done for them expands the market.

« Afro-fusion simply helps us enjoy that same experience infusing western repices with home based recipes.

« Abuja has been a great market for Afro-fusion food since we started two years ago. The market is growing beyond the city and Afro-fusion is on the way to becoming a Nigerian staple, » Taylor said. (NAN)
