COVID-19/Sal: Economic operators consider tourism resumption something “unknown” without vaccinated population

Espargos, May 28 (Inforpress) – Economic operators in Sal consider the resumption of tourism is something “unknown”, as long as the national population is not vaccinated, fearing a new wave of COVID-19, which may delay the visit of tourists to the country.

The feeling of economic operators on the tourist island is one of hope, although aware the situation in the sector will not improve in the near future, since, as they analyze, it is not from one moment to the next that Cabo Verde, Sal in particular, will be able to recover the 800 or one million tourists, who annually visit the island.

The well-known Cabo Verdean businessman Patone Lobo, owner of the Odjo d’Água Hotel, predicting the resumption of tourism there for 2022, fears a new wave of COVID-19, which may affect the arrival of tourists to Sal, although nothing is yet concrete, even with the announcement of arrival of flights from mid-June, he noted.

“Still the tour operators have not contacted us, the dates for reopening have already been set several times, but things do not happen. The Odjo d’Água Hotel is functioning, and is prepared to welcome tourists safely to visitors. But as long as the population is not vaccinated I have my doubts”, he said hoping, however, that with vaccination and decrease the number of infected on the island.
