Eastern Region gears up for national sports festival

Koforidua (E/R), July 18,GNA-The Eastern Regional Sports Authority in collaboration with the Regional Sports Associations have embarked on a justify your inclusion to select a formidable team to represent the region at this year’s National Sports Festival slated for Cape Coast.

Hundreds of athletes both male and females showed up to participate in the justify exercise for selection into the various regional teams.

Five Sporting Associations including Volleyball, Handball, Athletics,Badminton and Taekwondo conducted the justifier for their athletes.

The region is expected to select over 150 athletes both male and females to the one week sporting festival which starts from the 11th to 18th of August 2018.

The Eastern Regional Sports Director, Mrs Gifty Horsu Fianu who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA ) in an interview commended the efforts of the various district assemblies for supporting the athletes to participate in the exercise.

She said the regional sports committee and the local organising committee are yet to fix a date for the selected athletes to be camped to further boost their moral and training capabilities.

Mrs Fianu appealed to the assemblies to contribute some funds to support the camping of the regional contingent to help their preparation towards the festival.

She said , last year, the preparations for the festival was poor , however, the team was able to win some gold medals and other silver wares.

This she believed with support from corperate organisations, companies, the assemblies and individuals coupled with adequate preparations, the team can make the region proud.

She advised the selected athletes to continue traning hard and put themselves into shape till they are called for camping.
