Accra, Aug.07, 2018- Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister for Youth and Sports, has expressed the readiness of Ghana to host the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations, despite reports over the possibility of Ghana losing the right due to slow pace  preparations.

This was after the minister over the weekend met Mr. Ahmad Ahmad, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Madagascar and assured him  that, Ghana was ready to host the rest of the continent in the women championship, since the country was endowed with more sporting facilities.

There were earlier reports over Ghana’s inability to host the competition due to the slow pace of work at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Information gathered by the GNA Sports indicates that, the meeting, which also discussed the way forward for Ghana football, cleared all doubts and reports that, Ghana would be stripped off the hosting right of the biennial 11th African Women Championship scheduled for Ghana in November, 2018.

According to the information, Mr Asiamah presented a comprehensive report of the country’s preparedness in hosting the rest of Africa in Ghana, with the inauguration of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), tournament budget, infrastructure enhancement, venues and CAF inspection visits.

GNA Sports also gathered that the over eight-page report discussed television and broadcasting, proposed date for the official draw of ballots, along with CAF official lodgings and alternative stadia for the Accra Sports Stadium.

The CAF President reiterated the governing body’s support to cleaning and sanitizing Ghana’s football, following revelations of evidence of corruption and misconduct in the game and also expressed optimism of Ghana’s ability to host the 11th Africa Women’s Championship this year in November

It would be recalled that Mr. Asiamah, stated in an interview that, « the Accra Sports Stadium is not the only stadium in Ghana that can host the tournament, we have other stadia in Kumasi and Tamale, which are equally good to host the games.

« I have sent people to inspect the Kumasi and Tamale Sports Stadium and they look good, though we might need only a few things to put the place in good shape, » he added.
