Goka (B/R), June 03, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been praised for the rehabilitation of the nine-kilometre Seketia-Goka trunk road in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.
During a visit, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) sighted the first phase of the road project had been asphalted and completed, facilitating the movement of the people, goods and services.
The residents said they were happy and would forever be grateful to the President for the work done so far, saying successive governments promised, but failed to re-shape the road.
They however, pleaded with President Akufo-Addo to ensure the commencement of the second phase of the project for the road to meet the required standard.
In an interview with the GNA at Goka on Friday, Mr Joseph Dabie, the local Assemblyman said the rehabilitation of the Seketia-Goka road was an indication that President Akufo-Addo and his government was passionate for development.
« This is why we are further appealing to President Akufo-Addo to facilitate the construction of the about 15 kilometre Goka-Seikwa stretch too », he added.
Mr Dabie noted though contract had been awarded for work to begin on the seven-kilometre Goka-Kokoa Road, the contractor had not been seen on site and appealed to government through the District Assembly to do something urgently about it, saying “that particular stretch is also dear to the heart of the people”.
He said due to rapid population growth, pressure was now on the two public toilets, which served the more than 15,000 residents, thereby contributing to open defecation and appealed for additional toilet facilities.
Mr Dabie expressed concern about increasing cases of burgling and petty theft in the area and bemoaned “the only two Police personnel at the Goka Police Station is not enough to control crime wave in the area”.
He said, “the Police station is being housed in private residence” and appealed for a new official Police station building and accommodation for the personnel.
Mr Dabie enumerated further challenges including deplorable conditions of classroom blocks confronting the town and added that the dilapidated condition of the kindergarten block at the local Presbyterian Primary and Junior High School “is a death trap” while the Roman Catholic Primary also needed a KG block urgently.
