MONROVIA, Oct. 29 (LINA) – Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor says as Liberia is on the path of ensuring sustainable and inclusive process of development and addressing poverty, she wants to remind Liberians that governance, growth and development is a process, not an event.

The government set up and put in place the Pro-Poor Agenda framework to address health, education and infrastructure development with the aim of getting every citizen involved in the growth of the country, Madame Taylor added.

Speaking in an interview recently while attending the First Russia-African Summit held in Sochi, the Russian Federation, she pointed out that infrastructural development is the first on the President’s agenda, because it will enable citizens have easy access to social services.

She opined that “peace and economic development are bed mates. Without peace, there can be no development, and without development there is no peace. We must all work collectively to ensure that the livelihood of Liberians is developed.”

Meanwhile, VP Taylor spoke about the country’s preparedness that enabled it tackle the Ebola epidemic in 2014, noting that “we are working closely with our international partners in making sure that Liberia’s health system is resilient enough to fight any outbreak of disease that may occur in the country.”

According to her, Liberia is looking at all options that are available in attacking diseases.

Universal health coverage is not just by providing an option to take patients to health facilitate, but also making sure that the facilities are up to standard by providing active laboratory results about a particular disease affecting the patients when tests are performed, she said.

These are some of the reasons President Weah decided to build hospital for the military, adding that, it is costly, but we have to start one at the time to make things happen for the development of the country, Taylor noted.
