Health Authorities Launch Rapid Testing Center At Int’l Airport

MONROVIA, Oct. 14 (LINA) – The National COVID-19 Management System of Liberia has dedicated a Public Health Sample Collection and Screening Center at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) to strengthen national effort in the fight against the pandemic.

Speaking Wednesday during the dedication ceremony of the facility held at the RIA in Margibi County, the Deputy Managing Director for Operation at the Liberia Airport Authority, Sandra Williams Daye, said the achievement of the center came as a result of the fund collected from the COVID -19 testing that was carried on by the Incident Management System at the RIA.

According to Daye, the screenings Center will help conduct repaid testing of passengers immediately upon arrival at the international airport to ensure safety before exiting the premises of the airport.

She disclosed that upon the inception of President George M. Weah’s Government, the LAA has made tremendous efforts to upgrade the standards of the airport with the latest being the Public Health Sample Collection and Screening center.

She extolled the parties involved in the initiative include the National Public Health Institute (NPHIL), Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) with support from the National Government.

At the same time, the Deputy Incident Manager/CMO, Dr. Francis Kateh, expressed gratitude for the level of confidence reposed in them by the President in fighting COVID-19 that has devastated many lives and which is continuously eroding the global economy of many nations of which Liberia is no exception.

“When various predictions were made regarding COVID-19, Liberians were afraid but President Weah believed in us and after the first cycle meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. a mandate was given to us to be creative and innovative in making sure that the people of Liberia are educated and protected,” Kateh added.

He stated that Liberia is blessed to have over eighty percent of the local technical team that dealt with Ebola still being present, hence the deployment of the various strategies to keep the virus under the water.

Kateh assured the President that they will continue to remain steadfast in mitigating measures that will enable the country to be save.
