Information Minister turns sod for first Government-owned Provincial SLBC premises

Freetown, (SLENA, 21st December, 2021). In furtherance of President Bio’s commitment to closing the information deficit, and ensuring that the state radio and television broadcaster has a national footprint, the Minister of Information and Communications, Hon Mohamed Rado Swaray, will today Monday December 20, 2021,  turn the sod for construction of SLBC Kono Radio station and admin premises.

When constructed, this will be the first provincial SLBC station building owned by the Government of Sierra Leone. The Kono SLBC premises will be constructed at Mount Zion in the Koidu New Sembehun City, Gbense Chiefdom, Kono District.

The project anticipates possible expansion of the facility to include TV studios, will cover road upgrade and is also included in the solarization project.

SLBC is currently transmitting from Freetown via its New England offices (with transmitters at Leicester Peak). There are provincial branches in Bo, Kenema, Makeni, Magburaka and Koidu, but sadly enough, those premises are either private lease arrangements or intra-government housing mechanism.

Kono SLBC construction will herald similar construction projects for the other regions once engineering and associated proposals plus relevant funding are finalized.

The nation is deeply grateful to SLBC management and staff all over the country for their dedication and professionalism.

Together as a nation, we are making positive strides under the patriotic and visionary watch of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, whose aspirations for the ICT sector continue to be politically engineered by Minister Rado Swaray.
