Praia, Jul 22 (Inforpress) – The discussion and approval of the proposed parity law was suspended this Thursday to be resumed in October, when the new parliamentary year began.
The leaders of the two parliamentary groups (MpD and PAICV) plus the three UCID MPs came to the understanding that the project should be discussed in more detail with civil society, so that the country would be endowed with a law that “serve better the country”.
Rui Semedo, chair of the parliamentary group of the African Party of Independence of Cabo Verde (opposition party) agrees that the conditions should be created to vote for this initiative, that is, the parity law.
“We are in a position to vote for it (the law), but if we want more time, we accept to meet the ultimate goal of giving the country a parity law,” emphasized Rui Semedo. Rui Figueiredo Soares, leader of the Movement for Democracy parliamentary group (MPD-ruling party), justified that the request for postponement has to do with the need to “improve the proposal and it can serve the interests of the country.”
