NARNGO to petition Presidency for rigorous COVID-19 Protocols enforcement

  3 Février      56        Santé (15358),

Accra, Feb.3, GNA – The Network of Associations of Registered NGOs in Ghana (NARNGO) will soon petition the Presidency through the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to collaborate with impact-making national institutions to enforce the COVID-19 safety protocols.
With the institutions, they are expected to visit the Ga East Municipal Hospital and other disease treatment and isolation centres to observe the trauma, pains and hardships patients go through right from the primary sources to influence more people to adhere to the protocols.
The exercise expected to be spearheaded by the COVID-19 Presidential Advisory Board, COVID-19 Trust Fund, Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, and the World Health Organization is expected to involve the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference, Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, and the Christian Council of Ghana as the main actors.
The rest are the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches of Ghana, Ghana Muslim Council, Full Gospel Business Men Fellowship International Ghana, Ghana Women’s Aglow, National House of Chiefs, Regional House of Chiefs, Creative Arts Industry, Drinking Bars Association, and Event Organisers Association.
Mr Kofi Lucas, the National President, NARNGO, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the stakeholders should thereafter develop educative jingles and played via different media platforms every day.
It should be educational advocacy that would be given great attention on radio, television and the print media from morning to night as their corporate social responsibility, he said.
He implored the actors to enlighten the public on the socio-economic burden and implications of COVID-19 on government, business companies, bread-winners and the world to address ignorance exhibited by people concerning the respiratory disease.
Mr Lucas, who is also the Project Strategist of the Network, reiterated the words of Melinda Gates, wife of American Billionaire Bill Gates when she said ‘Coronavirus will make Africa have dead bodies lying on the streets’.
She said although people did not understand her comments and criticized her if Africa was not careful and for that matter Ghana with its adherence to the safety protocols, the words shall come to reality.
Speaking about the reluctance of some Ghanaians to adhere to the protocols considering the less concern shown by political parties before, during and after the 2020 general election among followers, he said the nation could not have overlooked the election to cause a constitutional crisis.
“If you say because a politician didn’t come to tell you to adhere to protocols because he was more focused on winning power and so you wouldn’t adhere to the protocols, don’t forget it is your life and that of your loved ones that you are putting at risk,” he cautioned.
