Accra, June 06, GNA – The Nanumba North Municipal office of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has carried out a sensitisation exercise on the Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (ARAP) with the aim to promote good governance in the country.
The two month-long programme held from April to May with support from the European Union, was also to reduce corruption and improve accountability and compliance with the rule of law in the country.
A total of 30 community outreach and engagements were held in the municipality including 15 dawn and dusk broadcasts to ensure that all received the message in the area.
Communities reached included; Bincheratanga, Lepusi, Kpabi, Pusuga, Demongnayili, Bayanwire, Suburi, Kunkuna and Chamba whiles targeted groups included; religious organisations, women and youth groups, traditional authorities and persons with disabilities.
Mr John Tadare, Nanumba North Municipal Director of NCCE, who led the exercise in the municipality, spoke about the various forms of corruption such as bribery and nepotism, saying they negatively affected the country’s development.
Mr Tadare « Encourages educated persons and duty-bearers to use their knowledge to help society and prevent corruption instead of exploiting the system to their advantage. »
He also « Encourage the citizenry to uphold positive belief systems since such persons are less likely to engage in corruption. »
He urged especially men to eschew corrupt acts and support their spouses and family members to help them lead upright lives.
Mr Tadare also educated the public on the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan and procedures for accessing administrative justice in the country urging all to join the fight against corruption in the country to promote accountability and development.
