Praia, May 26 (Inforpress) – The President of the Regional Government of the Principe, Filipe Nascimento, said there are “strong reasons” to strengthen relations with Cabo Verde, stating he wants to share the experience in the field of regionalization and learn from the Cabo Verde “good examples”.
“Because more than 80 % of the population in the island of Príncipe is made up of Cabo Verdeans and descendants, there are strong reasons for closer relations here,” said the official, arguing for the approach of Cabo Verdean institutions, the State, the local authorities, as well as the private sector.
Filipe Nascimentos, who was speaking to the press Monday after a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Praia, said there is, of course, enormous potential to be exploited between these two States (Cabo Verde and Sao Tome and Principe), so the Autonomous Region of Principe also wants to make its contribution to strengthening these relations.
“The fact that we are an autonomous region, with a journey of 26 years, and Cabo Verde also has as a challenge the regionalization process, we also showed our availability and willingness to talk about our experience. Over the course of 26 years, we have reaped very good results from this autonomy and this experience seems to us to be the only one in African Lusophone reality and we understand that Cabo Verde should look with particular attention to the case of the Autonomous Region of Principe as an example for this challenge has in the regionalization process”, he defended.
