MONROVIA, June 28 (LINA) – The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) regrets the death of former Information Minister Jonathan Emmanuel Zekpehgee Bowier at age 71.
Rev. Bowier died on Sunday, June 27, at the Fedelity Clinic in Monrovia.
Bowier rose from a journalist with the state-managed newspaper set up within the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism in the 1970s after obtaining tertiary education in the United States of America.
He went on to become Information Minister during the administration of President Samuel K. Doe.
In his later years, Rev. Bowier established himself as a revered commentator of unrecorded events in the life of the Liberian Nation.
Rev. Bowier lectured at the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute in addition to offering consultancies to local and international organizations.
One of the high points of his legacy is recorded in his recent service to the National Media Council of the PUL as its first chairman, the self-regulatory regime of the Press Union of Liberia.
