Mindelo, Dec 19 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic considered, in Mindelo, the anthology “Claridade e modernidade literária cabo-verdiana – os fundadores” as a tribute to those who were “at the forefront of modernism in Cabo Verdean Literature”.
Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who was speaking in the City Hall of São Vicente during the presentation of the work, produced by the Cabo Verdean Academy of Letters and honoring the brilliant intellectuals, added that the honorees, at a certain moment in history, knew “to read and interpret the beating of its time” and “giving voice to the daily anxieties of a Cabo Verde seeking direction”.
The President of the Republic recalled that, led by Manuel Lopes, Baltazar Lopes and Jorge Barbosa, the group of intellectuals “committed to their land” began a posture of cultural and political emancipation, developing a social conscience, “determined to denounce and changing the state of things. ”
The chairman of the Cabo Verdean Academy of Letters (ACL), David Hopffer Almada, for his part, said that one of the organization’s statutory “big goals” is to “respect and preserve” the memory of those who for their action, particularly in literary, have contributed to the “dignity and respectability” of culture, particularly in the literary field.
