Tamale, Nov 01, GNA – The second edition of the Harmattan Awards for Development Journalism will be held in February, next year to award journalists whose work promote agriculture as business in the Northern Savannah Ecological Zone.
The Harmattan Awards for Development Journalism targets professionals, who are passionate about reporting on the challenges and prospects that exist in the field of agriculture in the northern part of the country.
It is an initiative of Countrywise Communications, a multimedia organisation, and the awards categories include; television, print (online and newspaper), radio and local language where deserving journalists will be awarded.
Mr Raymond Vuol, Director for Countrywise Communications, who addressed a News conference on the awards in Tamale, said it was to complement journalists for some of the challenges, they went through to report on issues about the agricultural sector especially from remote areas.
Mr Vuol said Countrywise Communications would institute a research fund to support journalists financially to cover issues confronting the sector especially from remote communities.
The applicants for the Awards must be journalists, who report mainly on agriculture, and must submit three stories that were published between November 1, 2017 and October 15, 2018 and such stories must focus on any aspect of agriculture and its value chain such as production, mechanisation, value addition and market linkage.
Mr Dennis Wayo, Chief Executive Officer of Denlloyd Engineering and Services Limited, who is one of the sponsors of the awards, lauded the initiative given the crucial roles journalists played towards the development of agriculture in the country.
