Praia, Jan 8 (Inforpress) – Traditional fishing in the fishing communities of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, has been practically paralyzed in recent days, due to bad weather conditions, which prevent small boats from working.

According to the fishermen, traditional fishing in Porto Novo is experiencing “difficult times”, a situation that, due to the weather conditions affect fishing activity in this municipality, has complicated, in recent times, when the class has difficulties to maintain their own families.

The Porto Novo Fishermen’s Association has admitted that “this is a difficult time” for fishermen in this municipality, who are having difficulty getting their own livelihood.

Without giving details, the president of this association, Atlermiro Neves, informed that there is the possibility of fishermen being supported at this time of year, within the framework of the partnership between this organization and the City Hall of Porto Novo. This official has been warning about “oblivion” of traditional fishing in this municipality, where, in his view, fishermen go through “moments of penury”.
