Abuja, April. 25, 2019 (NAN) The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF),Zone ‘D’  Bauchi Field office, has sought for partnership with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Bauchi, in protecting the interest of women and children.

Kaalu, who was accompanied by Dr. Martins Jackson, Nutrition Officer of UNICEF, Bauchi Field Office said, having recognised the media as strong stakeholders in informing and educating people on women and children issues, NAN would make a reliable ally.

“The purpose of this visit is to see how we can strengthen partnership between UNICEF and the News Agency of Nigeria.

“We want partnership with NAN because we work with partners and we recognise that the media is a key partner as you have the inherent capability in terms of training, equipment and orientation, to advocate on the right of children.

“We also want this partnership so as to give the best in making the operations of UNICEF known,  not only to the people of Nigeria, but also our donors all over the world,” Kaalu said.

The communication officer said UNICEF had established presence in over 190 developing countries, providing interventions in the area of health, malnutrition, clean water, quality basic education for boys and girls, as well as protection of rights of children.

In his response, NAN Bauchi Zonal Manager, Mr Abdullahi Salihu said, UNICEF and NAN had  something in common, hence the need for synergy in their activities.

“We will  be doing nobody any favour by assisting organisations like UNICEF which activities border on humanitarian and social responsibilities, just like NAN.

“We are to serve and help people that are helpless and speak for the people that are voiceless,” salihu said.

The manager appreciated UNICEF for the visit and assured them that the cordial relationship between them and NAN in the state would be strengthened. (NAN)
