Two Taekwondo athletes and a Coach depart for Youth Training Camp

Accra, June 16, GNA- Two Ghanaian athletes, Prince Marvin Klutse and Leila Ali Sambo have left the shores of the country for Ivory Coast to partake in the African Youth Taekwondo Training Camp in Abidjan.

The two athletes were accompanied by Coach Selorm Fayise.

The Africa Youth Training Camp which runs from Thursday, June 15, to Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Ivoiro Korean Sports Cultural and ICT Center is designed for athletes between 13 to 17 years and holders of at least 4 keup.

Designed by the Development Committee of the African Taekwondo Union (AFTU), two participants (male and female) and a coach, are expected from each Member National Federation except host Ivory Coast, who will have 10 athletes.

Other countries invited to participate in the five-day program include Algeria, Libya, DR Congo, Niger, Senegal, Nigeria, Chad, and Kenya.

Participants are expected to be taken through various training sessions including the impact of the use of social media, and an exchange with African Olympic champions.

Marvin Klutse, 17, who competes for Meghis Taekwondo Club, and Ali Sambo, 13, a member of the Queens Court Taekwondo Academy have been training with Coach Selorm Fayise for the past two weeks towards the camp.

President of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation, Frederick Lartey Otu, who is the Chairman of the Development Committee would supervise the smooth running of the program in Abidjan.

The contingent is expected back to the country on Sunday, June 19, 2022.
