MONROVIA, Aug. 17 (LINA) – As he continues his nationwide tour on Wednesday, President George M. Weah has emphasized the need for Liberians to unite and work together in building a legacy that will be appreciated by future generations.

“Let us join hands to leave a legacy in Liberia where our generation can boost that we did it,” President Weah said amidst rounds of applause from hundreds of Liberians who crowded the National Gymnasium at the Samuel K. Doe in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

Earlier, thousands of residents of District #6, Montserrado County staged a massive welcome of the Liberian leader as they flooded the street while chanting and applauding President Weah as he sailed through the district.

“Let me first of all say thank you for this warm and exciting welcome to enable us to recalibrate the vision of our country,” President Weah said in commendation to the residents.

He said he is a son and one of the first residents of District #6, dating back to his arrival in the district as his first arrival from Cameroon where he also played professional soccer.

“I am a son of District #6. All of the other people came and met me here, and today you can see Rehab 12 years ago when we were not in politics and you saw how Rehab was looking. Some of our friends spent 12 years in leadership but could not take care of Rehab area,” said President Weah.

The Liberian leader said when he was elected Senator for Montserrado County, he ensured that while serving as Chairman of the Montserrado Caucus that every lawmaker benefitted from his leadership by initiating a project in various districts.

According to him, the people of District #6, Montserrado County and Liberians at large elected him as their President based upon the trust they placed in him and, as such, he will do all within his power to ensure that his government works towards achieving every promise made to the people of Liberia.

“It is our duty to ensure that our citizens are safe, the community and family need to help us protect the people in the community. The community needs to uproot the bad people from the community thus making it safe for everybody,” said President Weah.

He said he has broken the country’s developmental record in four years of a six-year mandate given him by the people and therefore, if more time is given him, he will do more to achieve his promises.

Dr. Weah urged Liberians not to fall prey to those who were once given the opportunity to lead, but did nothing towards the improvement of Liberia.

« Do not go back to what it was, we are moving forward. The country is developing, all the things that are left to do, let’s do it together, » he added.

Later, in District #5, the Liberian leader told residents at the Paynesville Town Hall that amid all the negative propaganda against him, the citizens still trust in his leadership.

“I have always fought to represent my country since I was a child but you gave me the greatest responsibility and made me achieve my ultimate goal by making me the senior Senator of Montserrado County and did not stop there, you did everything possible and made me President, » he explained.

Meanwhile, the Liberian leader has urged citizens to be custodians of the infrastructural projects being provided by the government.

“After you have given me my two terms, I will not be in power but I will be glad to see the projects my government undertook when I was president. So please manage these infrastructures well,” he emphasized.
