Abuja, June 8, 2023 (NAN) The Permanent Secretary (PS), Ministry of Defence, Dr Ibrahim Kana, had said that Nigeria would sustain its contributions for the success of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNTJF) in the lake Chad region.
This is contained in a statement by Mrs Victoria Agba-Attah, Director, Press and Public Relations, of the ministry, on Thursday in Abuja.
Kana made the commitment when he received students of Niger Republic Military High School who were on a strategic tour of Nigeria.
The PS, represented by Mrs Olu Mustapha, Director Joint Services in the ministry, said Nigeria would continue to provide troops and logistics for the MNJTF to bring to an end the Boko Haram insurgency.
He noted that Nigeria and Niger share a lot, and would continue to expand their scope of cooperation in security, culture and economic development.
The PS said that Nigeria and Niger had signed a defence cooperation agreement on Oct. 18, 2012, adding that the visit would reinforce military cooperation as a working tool for future collaborations between them.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Brig.-Gen. Ben Abdoul condoled with the permanent secretary on the demise of his father.
Abdoul explained that the aim of their visit was to gain a wider knowledge for their thesis on military cooperation and cross border security using Nigeria as a case study.
He added that the acquired information would be shared and used within their operations and for the protection of their military domain.
The team leader said that the Military High School was established in 2020 to prepare the country’s Defence Security Policy.
He explained that the delegation, which comprised 10 directing staff and 23 participants, were in Nigeria to seek information on activities in the Defence sector.
Abdoul noted that the Niger Republic had always extended maximum military assistance to Nigeria, including information and intelligence on the activities of terrorists and associated criminals.
