Morocco to Host 33rd FAO Regional Conference for Africa

Rabat, 28/11/2023 (MAP) – The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will hold its next Regional Conference for Africa (ARC33) on April 18- 20, 2024 in Rabat, under the aegis of Morocco.

This Conference, which will be held under the theme « Resilient agri-food systems and inclusive rural transformation », is a major opportunity for African countries to discuss practical solutions for food security and agricultural production improvement, FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests said in a joint press release.

The event is expected to attract delegates from across Africa, including Ministers of Agriculture and other ministers related to food systems transformation such as finance, trade and industry, forestry, fisheries, environment, science and technology, health, among others, as well as representatives of civil society, the private sector, development partners and observer member countries.

ARC33 will serve as a strategic platform for members and other stakeholders to share best practices, explore partnerships and discuss innovative opportunities and solutions on agri-food systems transformation.

A team from the FAO Regional Office for Africa recently visited Rabat to hold meetings with the host country and collaborate on preparations for the Conference.

« This conference is an opportunity to bring together all African countries for a constructive dialogue on sustainable solutions to strengthen food security and promote advanced agricultural practices. We are delighted to host this important meeting and share our experiences in agricultural development », Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Mohammed Sadiki, who will chair ARC33, said.

For his part, FAO Representative in Morocco, Jean Senahoun, undermined that « FAO is pleased to collaborate with the Kingdom of Morocco to host this key regional conference. It comes at an important time when all stakeholders shall take concrete action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
