Angola at Central Africa Maritime Conference

Luanda – An Angolan multi-sector delegation participates in the First Maritime Conference of Central Africa (COMAR1) in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The event, which stated on Tuesday (17), is due to end on Monday (23).

The meeting takes place under the motto « Governance and Security in the ECCAS Maritime Space for the Development of a Sustainable Blue Economy in Central Africa ».

The Angolan delegation to the Conference is headed by the minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen do Sacramento Neto, who has been in the DRC capital since last Saturday.

As part of the Conference, the Angolan official participated Sunday in the Meeting of Ministers of the Central Africa Peace and Security Council and in the Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Programme to Support the Strategy for Maritime Protection and Security in Central Africa.

The Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs refers, in a note, that the agenda of Carmen do Sacramento Neto dos Santos also foresees planning a session of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) on Monday.

The document adds that these meetings aim to prepare the Segment of Heads of State and Government of the First Maritime Conference of Central Africa.

In the framework of the Steering Committee Meeting of the Support Program for the Maritime Safety and Security Strategy in Central Africa, the ECCAS Commission will present the Project Financing Agreement.

This is a project signed in 2017 between ECCAS and the European Union.

The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) was created in Libreville, Gabon, in December 1981, becoming operational only in 1985.

ECCAS essentially aims to promote cooperation and self-sustainable development, with particular emphasis on the stability and economic integration of Member States and contribute to improving the quality of life of the respective populations.

ECCAS is made up of eleven (11) Member States, namely Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe DRC.
