Bank of Ghana Ladies’ Association donates to Volta Regional Hospital

Hohoe (V/R), June 21, GNA – The Bank of Ghana Ladies’ Association (BOGLA) has donated medical equipment and accessories to the Volta Regional Hospital, Hohoe to enhance quality health delivery.

The items, which included a new Mindray DC 30 Ultrasound Scanner, condoms, Bank of Ghana branded bedsheets, papers for printing, gels and patient monitor, were donated in a ceremony in Hohoe.

Ms Ivy Adjimah, BOGLA President, said the call on the Association for an ultrasound scan machine was to them, an emotional appeal and a life-saving necessity that required an urgent provision.

She said given the importance of the machine, especially its assistance with diagnosis, and consequently, the existing clinical deficiency due to its unavailability, they were as an Association, delighted for being able to redeem their pledge.

Ms Adjimah said the scanner, beyond being used for obstetrics and gynaecological ultrasound scan, it could also be used for elastography scan, doppler scan and used to look at the heart and nearby blood vessels.

She noted that their ability of reaching out to another region within the country brought them much satisfaction of what their charitable organization held as one of its visions, which was to extend the tentacles of their benevolent operations beyond Greater Accra Region.

Ms Adjimah called on the Management of the Hospital to take good care of the items donated and exhibit a high level of maintenance culture so it could serve more people in and beyond the Region.

She expressed gratitude to Governor and Deputy Governors of the Bank of Ghana as well as all the ladies who constitute BOGLA for the joy and eagerness with which they received and approved of the benevolent initiative, and subsequently paying their quota cheerfully and bounteously towards the purchase of the items.

Mr Victor Akakpo, Volta Regional Manager of the Bank of Ghana noted that the donation from BOGLA was one of the numerous Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSRs) the Bank of Ghana had done to the Volta, Oti and other regions of the country.

He said some CSRs of the Bank in the Hohoe Municipality were the donation of equipment to the Eye Clinic of the Regional Hospital, equipment to the Physiotherapy Unit of the Hospital and donation of computer tables to the Hohoe Midwifery Training School.

Others include construction of a six-unit water closet for the Volta School for the Deaf, construction of pavilion for Alavanyo Senior High Technical School, repair of the old Ambulance and the construction of 20 modern toilet facilities at Gbi Bla, a suburb of Hohoe.

Mr Akakpo said the scanner donated had an “iclear spectacle reduction imaging technology” capable of reducing the image speckle noise and had a clearer and shaper lesion contour and could give a clear picture of soft tissues that do not show up well on x-ray images.

He noted that the scanner was one of the preferred imaging modalities for the diagnosis and monitoring of pregnant women and their unborn babies that provides real-time imaging.

Mr Akakpo said the Bank of Ghana was very much concerned about the health of staff and the general public as a whole and would be grateful proper care and good maintenance culture was adopted to keep the machine in good working condition to help the Hospital continue to deliver quality health care in the Municipality and beyond.

Mr Charles Torkornoo, Head of Administration, Volta Regional Hospital on behalf of the Medical Superintendent, said the Hospital had done all it could to improve on maternal and child health services in the Hospital.

He noted that looking at the number of pregnant women that came to the facility from antenatal care through to delivery, there was the need to focus more on mothers and children since children were the future leaders.

Mr Torkornoo expressed gratitude to BOGLA for the donation adding that the Hospital acknowledged the tremendous support the Bank of Ghana had given the Hospital over the years.

He said the machine had come at the right time and would play a critical role in ensuring health delivery especially when the outpatient department attendance of the Hospital kept increasing with the antenatal care attendance, recording significant figures.

Mama Dzitri II, Vice President of the Hohoe Municipal Council of Queens, said the donation came at the right time which would ensure that women had quality healthcare while calling on management of the Hospital to take good care of the items.
