Rabat, 28/05/2024 (MAP) – The Moroccan parliamentary delegation taking part in the African-European Conference on Migration, held on May 25-27 in Benghazi, highlighted Morocco’s pioneering experience in managing the migration issue, notably through the National Immigration and Asylum Strategy, initiated in 2013.

Made up of members of the Moroccan Parliamentary section to the Pan-African Parliament, namely the deputy from the National Rally of Independents party, Laila Dahi, and the deputy from the Justice and Development party, Abdessamad Haiker, the delegation shed light on the foundations and objectives of the national immigration strategy, according to a press release from the House of Representatives.

This strategy is rooted in a humanitarian and solidarity-driven approach to migration. It views migrants as pivotal contributors to bolstering the national economy and fostering the development of the African continent. This perspective transcends the traditional security-focused mindset, which often perceives migration as a threat to national identity and a source of instability, according to the same source.

The participation of members from the national parliamentary section also served as an occasion to engage with various stakeholders and actors regarding the different proposals presented and discussed. This interaction reaffirmed Morocco’s keen interest and effective commitment to offering an integrated model and comprehensive migration policy, in line with the far-sighted vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
