Sharm el-Sheikh, 08/11/2022 (MAP) – The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Republic of Congo, Arlette Soudan-Nonault, commended the firm commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI regarding the environment and climate change in Africa.
In a statement to the press after being received, on Tuesday in Sharm el-Sheikh, by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Goodwill Ambassador of the Congo Basin Climate Commission and the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin, the Congolese minister, who is also Technical Coordinator of the Congo Basin Climate Commission, emphasized that this royal commitment has taken shape through a set of initiatives launched at the COP 22 in Marrakech, including the Three Commissions Initiative, namely the Sahel Region Climate Commission, the Small Island States Climate Commission and the Congo Basin Climate Commission.
Arlette Soudan-Nonault expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the efforts undertaken by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, especially in mobilizing the financial resources needed to achieve global sustainable development and move towards the energy transition.
« Thanks to all these efforts, we have moved from a proposal approach to the applied scientific aspect, » she added, explaining that the Congo Basin Climate Commission, like the other two commissions, has clear, defined and ambitious action plans.
« We are happy today because we are entering an important phase which is the effective mobilization of the Fund’s resources, » said the Congolese minister, expressing her gratitude for the actions taken by Morocco at this level.
She also recalled the challenges facing the Congo Basin, which are mainly related to human behavior, citing unsustainable agricultural and pastoral practices.
This challenge threatens the Republic of Congo and neighboring countries that aspire to develop their respective economies and adapt to population growth.
