GFA reshudles Kotoko/Ashanti Gold match-day 29 clash to June 2

Accra, May 23, GNA- The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has rescheduled the Ghana Premier League (GPL) match-day 29 clash between two regional rivals, Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold to Thursday, June 2.

The match, which was supposed to be played at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi last Thursday was postponed following the advice from Security Services for the GFA to hold on to the clash till adequate security was provided.

A statement released by the association said the regional derby between these two clubs would take place on Thursday June 2 at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.

According to the GFA, the venues for the home matches of Ashantigold could change if the advice from the security services still holds after the clash between these two clubs.

« It must be noted, however, that should the security risk and the advice from the Security Services remain unchanged by the next home match of AshantiGold SC, the Association reserves the right to shift the home matches of Ashantigold SC to be played at the club’s selected alternative match venue ».

This consideration came about after the disciplinary committee of the GFA reviewed a match-fixing scandal which Ashantigold was involved in last season and came to a conclusion to demote the club to the Division two league beginning next season.

Per several observations made, clubs may not feel safe playing against Ashantigold at their home grounds following this issue of which it was needful for the Security Services to intervene
