JLOH DISTRICT, July 25 (LINA) – The Grand Kru County detachment of the Liberia National Police (LNP) says it has arrested a suspect linked to the death of a one-year-old girl child in Dioh, Jloh Statutory District.

According to a team of police investigators, suspect Thomas Nagbe

Freeman, 42, was nabbed on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 in Jloh District after he allegedly struck little Faith Sonpon to death with a six pound stick.

Residents of the community narrated to police that suspect Freeman called the minor’s mother on that early Wednesday morning, shouting “Princess come outside. »

At about 6:00am, the child’s mother responded, but day had not broken yet, and that was the last conversation between them and she fell asleep.

The Crime Services Department of the LNP Commander, Chief Superintendent Maxwell Tarwily, told the Liberia News Agency on Saturday night that the victim’s mother could not give any account as to how the mysterious incident occurred.

Police probe established that since the incident happened, the victim’s mother is still in comma, and is seeking medical care at a health facility in the district.

According to Police, the landlord of the house identified as Luck Tweh, said when he heard the confusion and the noise he woke up and went outside with his torchlight.

When he came outside, he met suspect Freemen in the back of the house with a mortar pestle in his hand with the one year-old child lying in a pool of blood already dead.

The landlord told police that when he saw the suspect, he alarmed for community to come to the rescue, before the victim’s mother noticed that her one year-old child had been struck to death.

Community dwellers explained to police that after the alleged perpetrator committed the act, he put on a violent posture, but was subdued and arrested.

The CSD Commander said investigation has established that the suspect moved to Dioh a year ago, and is an ex-military personnel.

He had been convicted for nine years before at the Monrovia Central Prison on the charge of murder, but was set free after he served his sentence.

Superintendent Tarwily disclosed that the suspect has remained tight-lipped, and is yet to speak to police investigators, despite being informed of his Constitutional rights.

He indicated that the suspect has since been charged with the crime of murder and forwarded to the Wahpi Magisterial Court in Dioh for prosecution.

The County Crimes Services boss indicated that crimes against persons are on rapid increase due to insufficient security manpower, and the lack of a correction cell in Grand Kru County.

Meanwhile, the CSD Commander is appealing to national government to deploy more security men, especially police officers, and to see the need to construct a prison center in Grand Kru County to curtail the high crime rate in the county.
