Katsina, Nov. 16, 2022 (NAN) The Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic, Katsina, says it has received about N1 billion funding for the introduction of petroleum technology and chemical engineering programmes.
The Rector of the institution, Dr Ibrahim Mudi-Kurfi, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Katsina, northwest Nigeria.
Mudi-Kurfi said the funds were provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
“TETFund granted special intervention of about N1 billion to the institution which will be used in equipping the laboratories and the two departments,” the rector said.
He said that construction work had reached an advanced stage, and that the two programmes would commence during the 2023 academic session.
“As soon as the construction is over, we will invite the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to inspect the work done to ensure that things are in order.
“I believe they will allow us to start the programmes, because these two programmes are available in only two institutions in the whole of the Northwest zone of the country,” he said.
The rector said NBTE had so far accredited about 40 National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes run by the polytechnic.
Mudi-Kurfi further said that NBTE, on Nov. 9, conducted an assessment of eight other programmes preparatory to accreditation.
The programmes include ND Environmental Health Technology; Pharmaceutical Technology; Survey and Geo-informatics; and Mechanical Engineering Technology.
Other programmes are HND Science Laboratory Technology with Chemistry option; Science Laboratory Technology with Microbiology option; HND Civil Engineering; and HND Mechanical Engineering with Production option.
“We hope NBTE will grant permission to the polytechnic to run the programmes,” he added.
