Sunyani, Feb. 28, GNA – Lecturers, Heads of Departments and Faculties at the University at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) on Monday, resumed work, Mr Hayford Asare, the Acting Head, University Public Relations Office has said.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the UENR Sunyani campus, Mr Asare indicated the management of the University on Friday issued notice to all students about commencement of lectures on Monday.
He, however, said not all the students had arrived due to their locations and urged those yet to report to do so as a matter of urgency to be able to cover the academic time lost.
Mr Asare encouraged the students to put in more effort to be able to cope with the obvious intensity of academic work because the time left to complete the academic calendar was not much.
In a related interview, Mr Reginald Djimatey, the local University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) President told the GNA the decision of the National Executive Council (NEC) to suspend the strike had been communicated to their members, hence, the resumption of lectures.
He explained the suspension was intended to obey the court order and open an avenue for renegotiation with the government.
Jacob Osei, a fourth-year medical laboratory student in an interview confirmed he was on his way to the lecture hall and expressed excitement about the suspension of the strike.
Samuel Frimpong, a first year Resource Enterprise and Entrepreneurship student also told the GNA as at 1300 hours that, he had already gone for two lectures and was going to the hostel to prepare for the next day’s lectures.
