MONROVIA, Dec. 10 (LINA) – The Attorney General and Justice Minister of Liberia, Cllr. Oswald Tweh has emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the rule of law.

Minister Tweh made the statement Friday, December 6, 2024, in Monrovia during a program marking the launch of the Ministry’s 16th day of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

The 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign that highlights violence against women and girls as a critical human rights issue, which runs annually from November 25 to December 10.

Addressing a diverse group of employees, predominantly females, Cllr. Tweh cautioned against harassment and intimidation of women and girls by their male counterparts in both the workplace and the society at large.

He expressed gratitude to the newly established Gender, Social Inclusion Unit (GSIU), led by Madam Maude M. Somah, for organizing such an impactful program, noting that it marks an important milestone in the history of the Ministry.

The Ministry, serving as the prosecuting arm of the Executive Branch of the Liberian Government, has joined forces with various sector ministries, agencies as well as local and international partners in implementing the campaign, which focuses on combating sexual and gender-based violence against women and girls in the country.

For her part, the Gender and Social Inclusion Unit Director Madam Maude M. Somah, commended the Minister for his ongoing support and pledged to enhance awareness among the Ministry’s workforce about gender-based violence.

A series of complimentary speeches were delivered by partners, including the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) and representatives from the Ministries of Health, Mines & Energy, reiterating their commitment to eradicating gender-based violence in both workplaces and communities.
