Morocco, Cabo-Verde Motivated by Common Will to Contribute to Preserving Peace, Stability in Africa (Joint Statement)


Rabat, 09/05/2023 (MAP) – The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Cabo Verde affirmed, Tuesday in Rabat, that they share a common will to contribute to preserving peace and stability in the African continent.

In a joint statement issued at the end of the second session of the Great Joint Cooperation Commission of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Cabo Verde, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, and the Cabo Verdean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares, the two parties noted, with satisfaction, their convergence of views on various regional and international issues of common interest.

The two ministers also reiterated their determination to participate in efforts to settle disputes in Africa and praised the constant efforts made by Morocco, under the wise and enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and those of His Excellency José Maria Pereira Neves, President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, and His Excellency José Ulisses Correia e Silva, Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, in favor of the development of the continent.

The two parties reaffirmed the commitment of their Heads of State and Government to work together in the search for lasting peace and economic development in the African continent, particularly in the context of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), said the joint statement.

Bourita also reaffirmed Morocco’s support and availability to contribute to strengthening the integration of Cabo Verde in ECOWAS, taking into account its specificities as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS).

Furthermore, the Moroccan side reiterated the thanks and gratitude of the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco for the unconditional support that the Republic of Cabo Verde has always given to Morocco, as evidenced by its stances in the various regional and international forums.

To this end, the two parties agreed to support, in a concerted and mutual way, the Moroccan and Cabo Verdean candidacies at the level of these forums.

At the end of this second session of Morocco-Cabo Verde Joint Cooperation Commission, the two parties were pleased with the results of this important meeting which allowed the examination and identification of various projects and actions of cooperation to be carried out jointly, said the joint statement.
