Dakar, 21/10/2022 (MAP) – A donation from the Kingdom of Morocco of 25,000 tons of phosphate products for the benefit of Senegalese small farmers, was handed over, Thursday in Diamniadio, 30 km from Dakar, by the OCP Group (Office Chérifien des Phosphates) to the Senegalese Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Equipment and Food Sovereignty.

This donation, which comes on High Royal Instructions aims to support Senegal’s food sovereignty policy and to fight food insecurity, is composed of 10,000 tons of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) and 5,000 tons of TSP (Triple Super Phosphate) and 10,000 tons of fertilizers that will be sold at reduced prices, destined to small Senegalese producers.

The ceremony of handing over this donation took place in the presence of the Ambassador of His Majesty the King to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, the Senegalese Minister of Agriculture, Rural Equipment and Food Sovereignty, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye and Mohamed Benzekri, Director of OCP’s subsidiary in West Africa, as well as the central directors of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Equipment and Food Sovereignty of Senegal.

Speaking on this occasion, the Ambassador of HM the King in Dakar stressed that this fraternal donation of phosphate products, granted at the initiative of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the sister Republic of Senegal, reflects « the close ties of blood, spirituality, solidarity and deep conviction of the uniqueness of our destiny and our common future ».

The Moroccan diplomat said that this fraternal and concrete action is part of the historic mobilizations of the Kingdom of Morocco towards Senegal and African brotherly countries, recalling that Morocco has shown solidarity during the Ebola epidemic and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking on this occasion, the Senegalese Minister of Agriculture paid tribute to His Majesty the King for His actions and His initiatives of solidarity especially in this difficult situation, indicating that this donation is part of the fraternal relationship that exists between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal.

This fraternal relationship is reflected in close cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Equipment and Food Sovereignty and OCP, a world leader in fertilizers, through agreements and technical activities related to soil fertility and fertilizers, he explained, adding that this donation comes after a difficult global context due to the high cost of fertilizers.

He stressed that this gesture of great significance, which further strengthens the partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and Senegal, contributes to facilitating access to fertilizers to small producers, to reduce production costs given the high cost of fertilizers, to increase national production and to fight the high cost of living by improving the availability of agricultural products.
