Rabat, 12/12/2024 (MAP) – Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, received, here Thursday, President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, who is on a working visit in Morocco to strengthen parliamentary cooperation mechanisms between the two countries.

During the meeting, the two sides welcomed the secular and privileged ties between Morocco and France, which were further consolidated following the signing by HM King Mohammed VI and the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, on October 28, 2024, of the Declaration on the “reinforced exceptional partnership,” aiming to enable the two countries to better respond to challenges, through the mobilization of all relevant sectors of bilateral, regional and international cooperation, says a press release from the Head of Government’s department.

In this respect, Akhannouch hailed the French Republic’s support to the Kingdom of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara and the autonomy initiative within the framework of Morocco’s territorial unity, as the sole basis for resolving this bogus regional dispute.

He also stressed the importance of the partnership between Morocco and France in Africa, in light of the African Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the same source added.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to underline the importance of consultation and coordination on parliamentary issues of common interest, and of strengthening the mechanisms and roles of the Morocco-France Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of the French National Assembly, Naïma Moutchou, the Secretary-General of the Assembly, Damien Chamussy, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Bruno Fuchs, and the French Ambassador to Rabat, Christophe Lecourtier.
