Nouakchott, 20/10/2023 (MAP) – Moroccan film « The Slave » by its director Abdelilah El Jaouhari won the Jury Prize at the first edition of Nouakchott International Film Festival.
The Moroccan film stood out for its fluid style combining humor and depth, in addition to its impressive acting, according to the jury of the feature-film competition, chaired by Mauritanian director Abderrahmane Cissako.
The feature film by director Abdelilah El Jaouhary deals in particular with work relationships and the dominant place it takes in the individual and collective existence of people and societies.
On this occasion, the Moroccan director said he was « proud » of his participation in the first edition of this cultural event, the jury of which is made up of notable figures from the artistic scene.
The Grand Prize of this edition, held on October 15-19, was awarded to the feature film « You will die at twenty » by Amjad Abua Alala (Sudan).
In the short film competition, the film “Ramad” by Omani director Suleiman Al Khalili was awarded the first prize.
This festival saw the screening of 28 local and foreign films, in the presence of 21 guests from several countries. On the menu for this edition, several competitions included feature films, short narrative films, workshop films and “Cine-Mobile” films, in addition to a competition for content creators.
