MONROVIA, May 26 (LINA) – The Minister-designate of the Ministry of Public Works (MPW), Madam Ruth Coker-Collins, has said the ministry along with partners is prepared to implement the five-year strategic plan recently validated at a forum.

The plan includes critical infrastructure division, strategic focus regarding planning, financing, and constructing critical infrastructure like roads for the people of Liberia.

“This document is not just the many documents that we can downplay, but will be implemented and will be used as tool for the MPW,” she stressed.

Speaking during the close of the validation exercise, the Minister-designate told the audience that there is need to move those plans in the document faster in other to see Liberia be connected in terms of roads, adding that the institution is open to work with other government ministries and agencies in making sure that some infrastructure are implemented faster.

She, however, appreciated the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other partners for their continued development assistance in the Liberian society.

At the same time, in spotlighting some prospects in the document, the Consultant of the five-year plan said the vision of the document is to ensure infrastructure is well planned and efficiently provided to ensure adequate design and supervision of infrastructure that are timely in order to kick off the process and to ensure timely operations to ensure rural infrastructure and community service.

The Senior Transport Infrastructure engineer of the AfDB, Prince Tambah, told the audience that the Bank is pleased to work with the Government of Liberia to provide grants for the development of the strategic plan meant to be the foundation upon which the MPW will provide the country efficient and high quality infrastructure.

According to him, the strategic plan mirrors the National Development Plan which cuts across the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD) and the national vision that will take the nation to a middle-level country by 2030.

“We are hoping that with the political will it should not be one of the many strategic documents that we have prepared without implementation.

The project officer for Infrastructure Cooperation at the European Union, Gerald Fuller, said if a nation has a comprehensive system that is workable, donor will spend money in such system.
