Ohawu (VR) Dec 12, GNA-Ohawu Agricultural College in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, has held graduation ceremony for students in horticultural and entrepreneurship skills to improve studies in the school and communities.
The graduation, which took place in the College’s Assembly Hall, saw a total of 50 students participating in the ceremony, which was aimed at improving the skills of students in agriculture.
Mr Ernest Mawufemor Kwesi Abiew, the Principal of the College, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that other objectives of the graduation were to motivate the students to work beyond the limit to uplift the standard of agriculture in various communities.
« The training students acquired is call ‘Achi training project’ and it was sponsored by a foreign organisation called Holland Greentech under the government of Netherlands, » he said.
He said the students were taken through a-four-month intensive teaching and learning skills which provided the required knowledge that could be impacted into the society to improve agriculture.
He urged the students to impact positively into the various societies through the skills inculcated in them and uplift the standard of agriculture and teach others the best method to preserve farm products.
Mr Prince Dzorgbenyui Kwami Nyikplorkpo, the Vice Principal and ‘Achi’ Programme Coordinator, told the GNA that other non-students also took part in the training as well as the graduation ceremony to enhance their skills.
« The 50 students who graduated today comprises of 30 students, and 20 outsiders who are not our students, and that was the directive from the sponsors and this is even the second edition. »
He said the registration for the programme was free and opened to the public who were willing to engage into agriculture through horticulture and entrepreneurship to improve on their skills.
Mr Nyikplorkpo explained to the GNA that student acquired other training such as packaging and preservation skills in order to create, innovate and prevent damages of farm products after harvest.
He appealed to the students to consider agriculture as an occasion and create many jobs through farming to help curb the numerous unemployment rate in the country.
Some students GNA engaged after the ceremony thanked the Holland Greentech organisation for the gesture and pledged to impact the skills acquired to the society to improve agriculture productivity.
GNA observed that the students showcased various forms of skills acquired through packaging and storage during the ceremony.
