Accra, Jan. 30, GNA – Police in Kwabenya, Friday, shot and killed an assailant who allegedly stabbed a Station Officer and an Investigator, multiple times at the Kwabenya Hills Valley Police Station in Accra.
The suspect, now deceased, was identified as Hakimi.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwesi Ofori, Director-General, Public Affairs, Ghana Police Service, in a statement, said, preliminary investigation had established that « the deceased had earlier attacked three victims and threatened to kill them. »
The statement said, the victims, out of fear, rushed to the Police station to seek refuge but the suspect pursued them to the Station with a knife.
It said, at the Police station, on Friday, January 28, 2022, the deceased attacked the Station Officer and the Investigator with a knife and stabbed them multiple times in the head for attempting to protect the victims from the violent attack.
According to the statement, sensing that the lives of the Station Officer, the Investigator and the three victims were in immediate danger, the Police shot and killed the suspect.
The injured Police officers, it said, were currently responding to treatment at the Police Hospital.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation.
A fortnight ago, in a similar fashion on January 15, 2022, General Sergeant Bright Anobil (No. 38717), was stabbed to death at the Nyamebekyere Police station in Berekum, Bono Region.
The Police, therefore, warned persons who had a penchant for attacking Police Stations and Officers to be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police and some members of the Police Management and Advisory Board (POMAB) at the weekend visited the Kwabenya Hills Valley Police Station to encourage officers there.
The IGP commended the Station Officer for protecting the victims at the peril of his life.
