President João Lourenço congratulates Cuban people

Luanda – The Head of State, João Lourenço, on Sunday in Luanda congratulated the Cuban people and government on the 64th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution triumph.

On his message to his counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Angolan Head of State reiterated his solidarity with the Cuban people, who according to João Lourenço, “over the decades has shown itself to be resilient”.

To João Lourenço, it is about a resilience towards the defence of its identity and the principles by which the Cuban nation is governed, through the achievements undertaken in the most diverse fields related to Cuban national life, worthy of his congratulations”.

In his message, João Lourenço expressed Angola´s interest in identifying a new sector of mutual cooperation, hoping to continue to strengthen the historic ties of friendship and existing cooperation between both countries.

According to the document, the Angolan statesman revealed that the interest in new areas of collaboration is aimed at the benefit, progress and development for the peoples of the two countries.

Finally, the Head of State wished the Cuban people good health, personal well-being and prosperity in 2023.

Cuba has been a strategic partner of Angola since its independence in 1975 and supported the country against the South African apartheid regime, as well as training several Angolan cadres and wants to boost economic cooperation with Angola.

The first cooperation agreement between Angola and Cuba dates back to February 1975 and was related to Health and Education.
