São Vicente: Collect international project leads high school students to collect garbage on beaches

Mindelo, Oct 14 (Inforpress) – Students from the Ludgero Lima High School and the Salesian School of Arts and Crafts begin the collection of plastics on the beaches of São Vicente, as part of the international Collect project covering schools in six African countries.
According to a note from the Institute of the Sea (IMAR), in São Vicente, the first collection takes place in Praia Grande and the second will be on the 23rd at the São Pedro Beach.
The goal, the note said, is to survey plastic pollution on these beaches and, together with experts from universities and research institutes, and contribute to knowledge about the distribution and abundance of litter at coastal in African countries.
This activity emerged through the Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO) which joined forces through the Collect project with ten high schools from six African countries: Cabo Verde, Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Ivory Coast and Morocco, to combat plastic pollution in coastal environments, the same note reports.
