Tumu College of Education holds 4th Congregation

Tumu (UW/R), June 22, GNA – A total of 678 students of Tumu College of Education has graduated with a Diploma in Education at the 4th Congregation of the school.

Nine students obtained first class, 210 had second class Upper Division, 311 had second class lower division while 119 got third class and 29 making a pass.

The 4th congregation was held on the theme: « Building Ghana through Education: The Role of College of Education in Pandemic. »

Mr Bertinus Adams Kaleo, the Principal of the Tumu College of Education, recounted that since 2017 the College made a modest stride in the academic performance of students, adding that « the 2nd Congregation in 2017 graduated five different batches with only two batches recording one First Class each.

“At the 3rd congregation, the 2018 batch recorded Five First class students but today we celebrate four and five First class of these two last batches, indicating higher significant numbers being recorded at the second class division. »

Mr Kaleo attributed the improved academic performance of the College to effective monitoring by management of academic and other curriculars and urged them to keep it up.

He admonished the graduates, saying « whatever you do hereafter should reflect the vision for teacher education core values of honesty, integrity, creativity and responsible citizenship. »

Mr Kaleo appealed to the government to consider easing the restrictions on sporting activities at the various colleges, zonal and national levels to enable students to blend academic work with recreation.
He also appealed to the government to consider the colleges’ new status as tertiary institutions, in its choice of membership of governing councils of colleges.
Mr Robin Todd, the Executive Director of Transforming Teacher Education and Learning(T-TEL), advised the graduating students to apply what they learnt persistently and with a commitment to bring positive change and improvement in education.
