Rome, 27/02/2023 (MAP) – Morocco’s mandate in the Executive Board of the World Food Programme (WFP) was renewed on Monday for the third consecutive year as coordinator of the African Group (Electoral List A).
Following this appointment, Morocco will also assume the vice-presidency of the Board of Directors. Unanimously approved by the African countries, this re-election is a testimony of the trust placed in Morocco on the one hand, and of the Kingdom’s commitment to African causes on the other.
In a context where crises continue to multiply, Morocco, elected in the person of the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the UN agencies in Rome, Ambassador Youssef Balla, intends to continue to defend the priority issues for African countries, namely local procurement, resilience building and smallholder empowerment, while taking steps to ensure that the continent’s structural crises do not take a back seat to the ever-increasing cyclical crises.
Morocco was first elected to the WFP Executive Board in December 2020 for a period of three years.
